How far is it from martial arts to scissors, razor blades and men’s cosmetics? Tomáš Slamka, born in Bratislava, quit as a Thai boxing referee to put on an apron. He has become one of the top barbers in Slovakia and he owns a barber’s shop, HERO, and an e-shop, barber.sk.
He says: „If I start something, I give it 110%!”So he went to London and studied at the prestigious Barber Academy. “Our barber’s shop has a lot of foreign clients and it is great to widen one’s horizons with these people,” he praises the life in the capital. He adds: “It’s not New York but don’t expect quiet small-town life in Bratislava.”
His favourite place is the corner of the Beblavého – Mikulášska – Židovská streets, which bustles with life in summer. “Every time I walk around, I feel as if I were somewhere in Barcelona. People sit in front of bars, they chat and drink,” he describes the perfect atmosphere of the preserved historical part below the castle.
